Properties of Rice

Rice is the staple food of nearly half the world population, providing many people with more than 50% of their nutritional needs.

In its different varieties and a high percentage, rice is the basic source of food and income for millions of rural families and covers 11 percent of the world's cultivated land area. It is produced in more than 42 countries: from the valleys high up in the Himalayas to the deltas of the major rivers. As it happens, in The Ebro Delta, rice-growing has been one of the main uses to which the crop lands near the river mouth have been put.

Rice is a healthy and high nutritional cereal whose consumption is recommended several times a week in the context of a balanced diet.

The health benefits of rice can be seen in the way it regulates bowel transit, thereby helping to combat stomach cramp and constipation. It can be eaten by people who are unable to tolerate gluten (colic).

Its low sodium content and the presence of potassium help to eliminate liquids from the body. It is also a recommended as part of the diet for people with high blood pressure.

Some scientific studies have shown as the gamma-oryzanol in rice, reduces the levels of LDL (" bad cholesterol”) and raises the levels of HDL ("good cholesterol").
