Arroz Montsià

Missatge ADV

Hi, I'm Monti

I’m an animated grain of rice, but I’m not just any grain, I come from the Delta del Ebro, and according to my family tree, I am a grain of Montsianell rice, a variety with its own denomination of origin within the world of rice.

My job is to meet all of the children in my country and to introduce myself to them, to show them the wonderful county that I come from, the different types of rice that exist in the world, how rice is grown, processed, and packaged, and of course I also talk to them about healthy eating habits to help them understand the advantages of eating a healthy, varied diet.

Monti in schools

Every year I take a fascinating tour of the major schools of Catalonia with my educational program HEALTHY EATING, LEARNING, AND GOOD HABITS

My training sessions are mainly aimed at 3rd year elementary school students. I show them an audiovisual presentation that you can see here, where we explain how rice is grown and processed, the different types of rice that there are in the world, how it is cooked, and its importance in the food pyramid, all in an enjoyable way.

Then the children talk with their teacher about rice and the video, and they finally end up writing an essay inspired by the audiovisual presentation, as well as writing down a typical recipe from home in which rice plays a starring role.

From all of the essays written by students participating in the program, a professional panel selects ten winners, who receive the prize of a weekend stay with their parents at the Delta del Ebro with all expenses paid, so that they can visit all of the wonderful places where Montsià rice is grown.

Click here to see photos from past years and you will see that both parents and children really have fun on these visits, which of course include a big paella for everyone.

Every year, more schools get involved, since it is a fun and original way to understand the importance of healthy eating habits and the wealth that our land provides us with.

In 2014 we have received many essays from children in Catalonia. It is more difficult for the panel that assesses them every year to choose the best because the creativity, presentation and writing of the pupils' essays improves every year.

However, the 10 winners who have enjoyed a weekend in the Delta with their family are:

Laia Pons – Escola Bisbat d’ègara de Terrassa
Mireia Olivares – Escola Miguel de Unamuno de Sta Coloma de gramanet
Jana Masriera – Escola FEDAC de Canet de Mar
Nerea Viladrich – Escola CEIP Les Corts de Barcelona
Paula Treig – Escola 3 d’Abril de Mora la Nova
Andrea Giral – Escola Mater Salvatoris de Lleida
Angel Dominguez – Escola Josep Veciana de Perafort
Sara Pulido – Col·legi Els Angels de Tarragona
Gemma Riba – Escola Puig d’Esquers de Colera
