Càmara Arrossera del Montsià creates a plastic substitute from rice husks

Càmara Arrossera del Montsià and our collaborator, Iban Ganduxé, have developed a new sustainable material made from rice to compete with plastic.

This material, called Oryzite, is the result of a project of more than ten years of R&D that was presented last Monday at the PIMEC headquarters in Barcelona.
From all the rice husks of Càmara, this revolutionary material is made to replace plastic in products of different industries such as automotive, logistics, textiles, packaging or furniture.

The production of Oryzite, which is carried out in the same Càmara Arrossera del Montsià plant where the rice is processed, has multiple benefits such as reducing CO2, carbon footprint and energy consumption. Thus, the rice husk has become a very useful and innovative component, giving rise to Oryzite as a clear example of a circular economy: it uses the least number of resources and waste.
